Touch Screen Rentals to School the Collegiate Set
Touch screens are prevalent in technology these days – with devices from printers to tablets to LCDs boasting the innovation as a selling point. But while the market is a lucrative one, manufacturers have been trying to identify new segments for which they can gear their products. The educational sector is one such arena – and it might not be as unusual an idea as you might initially think. iPads are being integrated across the country thanks to large-scale grants and reformed educational programs. Students are given an iPad in the earlier grades and then expected to keep the same tablet throughout the years – until they graduate. The cost makes sense – in the long run, an iPad is cheaper and it sure beats lugging textbooks around. But the iPad isn’t the only game in town, as Samsung keeps trying to gently remind us. Unfortunately, it’s the most popular, and it’s going to take a true differentiator to change that. Enter: Amazon. I would consider Amazon the only other "dominating" force in the tablet market due to the success of its eReader. The Kindle changed the world (as evidenced by Borders shutting its doors) and that vehicle for evolution doesn’t seem to be losing steam. As the rumor has it, the next generation Kindle may have a touch screen – which puts it on more of a par with certain competitive models. When combined with Amazon’s new textbook rental service, it may very well be a recipe for success. That’s to say nothing of the new Amazon, Android-based tablet that’s supposedly in the works. The details are still hazy, but release is expected by early October, it will likely have a nine-inch screen – and there will be no camera. It will be geared towards consuming digital content (books, music, videos, etc.) While the above sounds a little behind the times, we’re still urging Apple to watch its back. Amazon is a force to be reckoned with. [Editorial Note: Free of the tech market’s little revolutions, here at Vernon we choose to stock a wide array of touch screen rental products. Whether they’re Android-based tablets or 3D LCD touch screen monitors, we carry over $45 million in stock – and don’t discriminate.] |
