Sharp’s gotten… well…sharper… and has began integrating touch screen technology into its printers. The company’s new models, the MX-2610N, MX-3110N and the MX-361ON, will all have large, touch screen-based control panels.
This might not sound like a big deal, but it’s the next step in the technology revolution. Now these extra-interactive printers can be customized with tools and apps, to allow complete, on-site previewing and editing of documents before they actually hit the printer.
Every other kind of tech product is headed for the cloud, so it was only a matter of time before printers joined the progression. The MX Series is that it can skip over accessing the PC and head right for the Internet (or the cloud), allowing complete network connectivity in a package that makes sense for most office environments.
Sharp’s Middle East deputy general manager of marketing and business solutions, Gautam Chakrabarty, shared his thoughts about his company’s cloud-friendly printer line. He said, "We are very happy to be able to offer these new products to businesses in the region. The addition of a very flexible, incredibly user friendly control system for these new colour MFPs gives a new dimension in controlling the print environment in an office. The intuitive interface has been a revolution in mobile phones, and now we have brought the simplicity of touch screen to the MFP.”
Powering the MX Series printers, Sharp has its OSA (Open System Architecture) technology in place, a system which uses graphical interfaces to facilitate operation. This allows users to document workflow – and it also allows managers to secure the printer to the network. The whole point is to save time, and save money, by unlocking the key to optimal printer potential.
For now, the MX Series is geared towards the Middle East release, but it will probably trickle over to other areas.
