Touch Screen Rentals Get Thinner Thanks to New P-SI LCD Tech
Once upon a time, companies had to rely on bulky, image-compromising overlays to get touchscreen technology at their events and tradeshows. Luckily, touch screen tech has been constantly experiencing new and exciting innovations. Now we have infrared and optical axis systems that make large scale monitors feasible interactive tools. But that same drive for superior quality and performance is resulting in even more impressive design breakthroughs. Many a company is coming forward with new breakthroughs involving the glass used to manufacture touchscreens. Toshiba and Sharp are independently developing a new technology which will be known as low-temperature poly-silicon TFT LCD. While the name of the product doesn’t quite roll off the tongue, the geek chic set is reportedly referring to it as “p-Si LCD,” which sounds kind of cool. So what does all this p-Si to the TFT LCD really mean? We’re going to start seeing a new thinner, lighter touch screen that is less power consumptive – in all of our fancy high-tech devices. And it might be closer to release than you might think. Japanese news sources are coming forward with reports that the screen is going to be produced for the Apple iPhone version 6, which is rumoured for release sometime in 2012. The big hitters aren’t the only companies manufacturing p-Si LCD. ASAHI Glass is also developing a new touch screen out of soda-lime glass substrates. It’s pretty light and strong and it’s also resistant to heat and discoloration – perhaps it will give that other new glass a run for its money. All of this competition might be bad for one of the industry’s pioneers, Gorilla Glass. The company reported first quarter profit declines that topped analyst estimates. There’s still a need, but with other players in the game, the future might fluctuate for one of the first companies to get to the table. We can expect tablets and touch screen monitors to also pick up these new innovations – and of course, we here at Vernon will be sure to carry the latest touch screen rental technology possibly. |
