Tips for Choosing a Netbook

HP Netbook

Among mini laptop computers, netbooks still enjoy a special place with many people who favor these portable computing devices both for purchase and for laptop rental.

Business users these days choose their computers from the elegant and ultraportable netbooks available from leading brands. Some of the most popular brands are Acer, Asus, Compaq, Dell, HP and Samsung although other lesser known brands are also available. There are a few aspects to keep in mind when you are choosing a netbook.

Ideal balance between screen size and portability

The screen size for most netbooks ranges between 8.9 inches and 10.5 inches. The large screen models are the best when it comes to ease of viewing. For users who need to browse extensively, a small screen may mean they have to scroll a lot to view full web pages. Intricate graphics or lists of figures are also difficult to view on small screens. For those whose work involves such data, a large screen netbook is a suitable option.

A familiar operating system

Opt for a netbook that runs on an operating system you are familiar with. You will find netbooks that run on Windows (XP, Vista, 7), Linux, Android and other popular operating systems. If you intend to start using your netbook immediately, it is best to choose an OS you already know your way around. Windows is, by far, the most popular and with the Windows 7 platform, demand has reached a new peak for netbooks with this OS. However, there are a significant number of Linux loyalists too, so finding a netbook with these operating systems is not difficult.

RAM

Netbooks with 512 MB to 1 GB RAM are the most popular versions in the market. Many of these can be expanded to double the RAM capacity. If you will be using heavy applications like photo editors or video editors then netbooks with 2 GB RAM are the best option.
