Tablet Rentals Officially a Craze: Drive Paperless Conferences

It’s official. A tablet craze is sweeping the nation and changing the way businesses conduct themselves at conferences, events and tradeshows.

Here at Vernon Computer Source, we’ve definitely gotten a first hand look at the trend, as many of our more traditional corporate clients have been calling in to take advantage of our tablet rental inventory.

We rent out the Motorola Xoom, HP Slate 500, Samsung Galaxy Tab and Apple iPad with great regularity, but there’s a good reason why this trend is taking off.

The New York Times, that hallowed old paper, recently did a piece where it investigated the phenomenon of conference load-lightening. According to the NYT, the digital revolution has been establishing some clear benefits for the conference attendees on the go.

According to Martha C. White, “Without so much paper to produce for conferences, planners said they were saving time and money. Not only that, business travelers do not need to carry around cumbersome and often heavy printed copies.”

Paperless events are here to stay – but you don’t need to take our word for it. David Holcombe, the chief executive for an online education organization, stated that his group has gone practically paper free. “I’ve felt for some time we spent way too much money on materials, paper handouts, that sort of stuff.”

While paper-driven initiatives were still offered to Holcombe’s conference attendees, he’s still seeing a drive towards digital. So much so that he brings fewer employees with him to distribute hard copied material.

Conference apps that track attendees and capture lead data are invaluable. Factor in that that very same media format can be used to show KeyNote presentations, videos and slides – and you have a true performer on your hands.

For the more intensive trade meetings, like those with a medical or law driver, paperwork can sometimes become overwhelming. That’s where the tablet revolution really shines.

The only hard part, at this point, is deciding which tablet to buy – as Ced Kurtz of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette aptly noted, we’re in a tablet arms race. There are hundreds of thousands of Apple apps, Android apps, and other apps on the market – so settling on the best is nearly impossible.

For businesses that want to try their hands, we offer various tablet rentals for just such an occasion.

Companies can take advantage of a short or long-term rental, see how the devices fit with their infrastructure and send them back. Or, they can choose to purchase them flat out, if they wish.
