Tablet PC Trends Define Computer Rental Market

The computer market is changing its habits and the rental market is shifting to meet this new evolution.

Various analysts have pointed out that tablet PC sales are booming – but fewer have looked at what impact this will have in other types of computers. According to Digitimes Research, global notebook shipments are going to grow only 12 percent this year.

Digitime’s senior analyst, Joanne Chien, said, “As more tablet PCs will start showing up in the second half of 2011, tablet PC's impact on the notebook industry will only expand further, causing global netbook shipments in 2011 to reach only 24.23 million units, while forcing the notebook industry to enter the initial phase of maturity.”

Digitimes goes on to single out Apple’s iPad, which is among the more popular tablet PCs.

Tech manufacturers tend to go where the money is, and that’s why we’re seeing companies coming out with their own tablet PCs. The Samsung Galaxy Tab, which was the first tablet PC to run on an Android platform, is one of the iPads fiercest competitors.

But other manufacturers are coming out of the gate as well. Tablets such as the HP Slate 500, HTC Flyer, Motorola and the Motorola Xoom are on the rollout, and this won’t be the last we see of alternative tablet options.

Even Sony is even jumping on the bandwagon, with its planned release of a VAIO slider tablet PC that will run on a Pinetrail-class Atom processor.

As users become more comfortable with using tablet PCs and enterprises adapt them for their sleek looks and mobility factors, the demand for tablets will rise. And rental vendors, like Vernon Computer Source, anticipate these changes in the market – and stock up on the necessary merchandise.
