Tablet PC Rentals: Next Generation iPad Promises to be Powerful Threat
If you’re renting an iPad for business, exposition or otherwise corporate use, get prepared for the tablet wars (and be glad you’re renting – it promises to be a bumpy ride). First… there was Apple’s iPad tablet. Then came the competition with their tablet PC models; Samsung with its Galaxy Tabs and HP with its Slate 500s. But now Apple is preparing to enter the fray once more, with a new version of the popular iPad tablet. And this one is probably going to be a slam dunk. According to The Wall Street Journal – the Apple iPad version 2.0 is going to be thinner, faster and stronger. It will have a front-facing camera for video conferencing and a quicker processor. The new iPad is slated for release sometime in the next few months and the WSJ states that it will be initially compatible with AT&T and Verizon’s networks. And this sort of move is just what Apple needs to secure its sunny outlook into the next calendar year. According to the Piper Jaffray analyst firm’s Gene Munster, 21 million iPad units are expected to ship out over the course of the next year. That’s more than the 14.5 million he had reportedly anticipated. Munster had nothing but positive things to say about the iPad – he called it a “Mac for the masses.” And he went on to extol all of the virtues of the iPad, and what its success means, overall, for apple. Munster said, “We believe the iPad represents a meaningful product category for Apple as a secondary computing device for those who already have a primary computer, a primary device for those who could not previously afford a Mac, and the first Apple product that will be a success in the enterprise; we see the iPad as the Mac for the masses.” Munster backed his data by pointing out that large retailers will soon begin carrying Apple iPads – including Best Buy and Target. And a launch in China is predicted to have positive outputs on the device’s sales figures. The iPad’s success should come as no surprise -- lightweight, powerful technology is often well-received. In the exposition and expo circuit, a larger tablet presence is growing, and that trend is likely to continue.
