Laptop rentals. Might sound like a strange concept, I mean why would you ever need to rent a laptop?

Well...Imagine pushing the power button on your laptop and nothing happens. Imagine dropping it as you rush across your office on the way to a meeting. Imagine spilling your morning coffee on the keyboard. Now imagine having a major presentation tomorrow and no functioning computer to prepare it with.

Now can you see the value of renting a laptop?

Renting a Laptop When Yours Takes a Tumble

What can happen when you drop a laptop? If you’re lucky, you’ll just end up with a little scratch on the case. If you’re not so lucky, you could smash the screen or damage one of the small but critical components on the inside. According to laptoptopia.com, the expense of repairing a dropped laptop may actually exceed the cost of buying new: older laptops had modular parts that could be replaced, but newer models tend to have everything integrated on the motherboard, making repairs much more difficult and costly.

But before you can even talk about repairs, the problem needs to be diagnosed. What can you do while your machine is being examined? Rent a laptop so you can keep working. Most rental companies will even custom-load the software you need so you can get to work right away.

As an aside, there is a reason why your IT people always tell you to back up your files to the network, an external drive or disc. In situations like this, where you may need to rent a laptop, you can access your files from the network or other location and copy them to the rented computer.

Try a Rental to Replace a Dead Laptop

What should you do if your laptop won’t start up? According to one expert, there are many possible reasons why your laptop won’t boot. Maybe it’s the AC adapter. Maybe it’s the power distribution inside the laptop. Maybe there’s a short circuit. Maybe it’s that grande latte that ended up all over your keys causing a short circuit. Maybe the Coke you spilled caused corrosion.

No matter what the reason, it will take some time for your IT people to figure out the cause and the remedy. You can’t afford all that downtime, so renting a laptop is a good idea.

As another aside, you may be able to repair damage from spills. As soon as the spill happens, power down the laptop and turn it upside down to drain out the liquid. Remove the power and battery and let the machine dry overnight.

If you have sticky residue, get help from your IT people or try removing the keyboard yourself and clean any messes with distilled water and a cotton swab.

Rent a Laptop to Save Your Sanity

For most of us, the thought of being without a computer for even a few hours is stressful. If your laptop sustains damage, either from an unfortunate accident or a technical breakdown, you’ll find comfort in knowing you can rent a laptop to get you through this difficult time.
