Printer Rentals Slash Business Costs
Printer rentals could do more for your business than you might initially think. And respected analyst firms like Gartner are helping publicize this knowledge. According to Gartner, alterations in the corporate printer market are leading to a growing awareness of new trends in technology. Companies now want the latest, greenest, most efficient printers possible. And sometimes, budget constraints can make adapting to this new wave a little difficult. That’s where printer rentals can be of some use. Temporary leases and flexible contracts can allow a business to test out a copier or a printer before purchasing it – allowing a budget-conscious industry to test out the technology prior to purchase. A Gartner analyst, Frederico de Silva Leon, said that “Companies are saying that managing print is one of the most effective ways to manage costs.” And part of printer management is productivity According to de Silva Leon, "Up to half of a knowledge worker's time could be spent printing and looking for documents. This is an area where we could see significant improvements." So cleaner, less consumptive, environmentally-friendly and easiest-to-use printers are preferred – and the printer manufacturer has risen to the occasion. Many of the newer printer models made these days are designed with all of these principals in mind. And upgrading to these new printers equates to dollar signs. An estimate from de Silva illustrated that a company with a printing threshold of 5,000 pages a month could save $1,000 a year simply by purchasing a new color printer (thanks to falling prices). Part of this estimate called for refreshing color printers every three years – in other words, staying current is part of the cost savings module, thanks to rapid technology advances. Another analyst at Gartner, Cecile Drew, drew the same correlation made previously in this article – third party printer rental services can be the easiest way to tap into this new printer cycle. According to an article published at CRN, Drew outlined three best practices for working with a printer rental company. Firstly, companies should “…create a strong corporate governance environment.” Secondly, companies should “Carefully manage the transition to managed print services.” And Drew’s third best practice suggestion is to plan for a “holistic management” of the printer services. In summation, businesses should enter into a printer rental contract with a plan – and they should also educate themselves as to their third party provider.
