The death of notorious terrorist Osama bin Laden has caused an influx in Internet activity; curious users have intensely probed search engines for information linked to bin Laden following his May 1 death.

Google and other popular search engines have been susceptible to Internet scammers after news that a United States Navy SEAL operation had killed Osama bin Laden in a fortified luxury home in Abbottabad, Pakistan, which has dominated headlines for over a week.

According to an eWeek.com report, Yahoo, Bing, and Google “exploded with the volume of bin Laden-related queries as people turned to the Internet for the latest dblackhat SEO via Google Images, according to a SecureList blog post.

The news comes on the heels of another recent security breach. Sony reportedly took measures to secure the remaining servers a group of hackers claims it had access to, shutting off any avenues for another attack.

Sony Online Entertainment shut down its services last week following concerns that a hacker may have had access to names, birth dates and other personal information of its users.

In a notification to its customers last week, Sony said it previously believed that SOE customer data had not been obtained in the late-April cyber-attacks on the company, but on May 1, concluded that SOE account information may have been stolen.
