Nintendo Hacked: Are Computer Rental Networks At Risk?

The infamous group of hackers from the Internet, Lulzsec has just hacked into Nintendo’s network to grab a file but not cause any harm. This could be grim news for videogaming if Nintendo doesn’t change the programming of its network.

It was publicized earlier when the group hacked Sony’s database a couple days ago on their photo-networking site. The group then attempted to hack into Nintendo’s network, and succeeded. LulzSec only took a programming file however, and left information that could have been stolen saying they "meant no harm."

On the group’s website, they began to describe what had happened when they broke into Nintendo’s network. They wrote, "Just for fun while we at LulzSec warm up," which is much more lighthearted than what had been posted on Sony’s network when they broke in just days previous.

LulzSec also has a twitter, which apparently tweeted how they "love Nintendo and Sega, if anything we’d hack *for* them," apparently showing their harmless intentions towards the company.

What is confusing for me is the hackers’ undying hatred for Sony and all of its networking. The previous weeks for Sony have resolved in huge amounts of credit cards and addresses stolen, and their websites being ripped apart by the most ruthless Internet invaders. However, once one of these companies broke into Nintendo’s system they backed off and warned them.

The only lead that anyone has on a "why," is the lawsuits that Sony has filed against people who have tried to unlock their own personal PlayStation 3 on a network. This riled up enough hatred from anonymous hacker groups around the world to boycott and begin attacks against the Sony Corporation.

The attack against Nintendo has shut up all the other laughing companies that have been teasing Sony for their embarrassing defeat. This was a prime example of how all the networks of these companies are not as secure as they think, and it takes only the will of a hacker to steal valuable personal information.

This will most likely be an extremely important issue with videogame companies that make games for computer rental and purchases, because their games are much more integrated in networks.
