IHS iSuppli, a renowned market research firm, recently revealed that in the last three months of 2011, around 3.9 million Amazon Kindle Fire tablets were sold globally. In terms of shipments, Kindle Fire is second only to the iPad from Apple (which as you may know is available for rent from our iPad rentals service).
The research firm divulged that by the end of 2011, tablet shipments reached around 56 million units. The growth in the tablet shipments was largely because of Kindle Fire, which has been successful in attracting many consumers because of its pricing policy. iSuppli has predicted that by 2015, tablet shipments will reach 287 million units.
The study by Barclays Capital, a reputed investment bank, shows even better figures. It has estimated that around 5.5 million Kindle Fire tablets were sold in 2011. According to Barclays Capital, by the end of 2012, around 18.4 million units of Kindle Fire will be sold worldwide. It is also estimated that nearly 54.8 million Americans will own a tablet by the end of this year.
This prediction by Barclays Capital is duly backed up by the data provided by Google Insights for Search. The data has revealed that within six weeks of its release, search interest in this tablet increased by 335 percent. It is rumored that Amazon is planning to bring out a bigger version of Kindle Fire following the success of its 7-inch tablet. Google too is expected to bring out a tablet later this year. The tablet market will continue its growth as products from new manufacturers arrive in the market.
