New Lighter Models from Apple Roaring to Front Lines of Laptop Rental Market
In the laptop rental business we are uniquely positioned towards awareness concerning trends within certain IT markets. For example, we knew that tablets and 3D LCD HDTVS were trends that were going to turn the industry on its ear – well in advance. That’s because requests for both of these products started coming in. Now, we can identify another trend as it surfaces – and that’s the one towards ultraportable laptops. Not too long ago, the more recent Apple MacBook Air and Samsung Series 9 models were praised for their lightweight benefits. But perfection requires persistence, and both Apple and Samsung are known for that particular trait. The next generation Apple MacBook Air, slated for release this very week, is rumored to be even lighter than preceding models. It will have Thunderbolt, Lion, and an ultra-low voltage Intel sandy Bridge processor. Drooling yet? Analysts are calling this release the most powerful laptop offering ever – to appear at the low-end of the size and weight spectrum. The fanfare on the Internet has been most dramatic, but we don’t expect this news to go away anytime soon. Apple Insider disclosed information from Deutsche Bank’s analyst Chris Whitmore, who shared his thoughts on the future of the Apple MacBook Air. Whitemore said he believes that sales will go as high as 1.5 million units, allowing Air to dominate over 50 percent of Apple’s laptop-centric book of business. AI pointed out that the new Lion OS is bound to encourage more purchases of the MacBook Air – one only needs to look at history. "Following the release of Tiger in April of 2005, Mac sales increased by 34.2 percent year-over-year in the following quarters. Leopard led to an even greater 45.6 percent year-over-year boost after it debuted in October 2007. And the launch of Snow Leopard in August 2009 brought about a 33.1 percent increase in Mac sales." So with that trend in mind, it’s easy to see how the newest Apple MacBook Air – loaded up with the Lion OS -- might give laptop sales a roaringly good increase. Laptop rental business won’t be hurting either. |
