Marvel at DC Universe Online's Server Merge

There is always a need for greater stability and that ever achievable peak of redundancy status. Even super heroes want it – as evidenced by the proposed server merge initiated by Sony Online Entertainment (SOE).

SOE will be moving one of its MMOs, DC Universe Online (DCUO),on to less servers – which is usually a grim sign. Nonetheless, SOE is billing the changes to DCUO as a good thing.

Fans aren’t receiving the news happily –  and for good reason. DCUO retails at $59.99 for PS3 and $49.99 for PC – a swanky price-tag for a game. And one that certainly justifies an enjoyable experience for players.

DCUO was the first MMO venture on the Playstation 3, and any failure for it reflects badly on the success of other ventures into a similar venue.

But SOE officials are insisting that this move is going to be beneficial for players everywhere. An official gave this statement: "This will allow for more opportunities to queue and participate in other group-related game mechanics. We are hoping to get this on our PC Test Server to start testing, again, sometime in the next month and then will tune it up for the PS3 platform as well."

It’s no surprise that Sony is reorganizing its server infrastructure. Servers – and their maintenance – are expensive. Getting the most bang for your buck is an important tenant that many companies are embracing, and a reason that drives many to rent servers.

Here at Vernon Computer Source, we stock over $40 million worth of IT equipment – some of which is comprised of server rental options.
