LCD Rentals Can Become Fun With New Stackable Puzzle Games

Technology can sometimes equate to toys, for individuals both young and old. And it was only a matter of time before LCDs became little more than just trinkets.

There’s a brand new game on the market called Sifteo. It’s essentially a stacking game that takes place on little devices that resemble Apple iPad Nanos. Stacked all together, the cubes form images, pictures, and clues – allowing users to play a variety of puzzle games.

Think Sudoko, Tetris, Dominoes or Jenga – now think digital. Cool beans, huh? We wish our LCD rentals were almost this cool

This whole development may come as news to some, but not for those who attended the 2009 TED conference. It was at that particular event that David Merrill and his partner Jeevan Kalanithi announced the future of LCD-based toys.

We’re not sure anyone believed them, back in the day, but the future is now.

A basic Sifteo "Pack" will cost users $149 – and will contain three cubes, a charging station, and a USB sync-up that can connect to either a mac or a PC. For those wanting even more cubist entertainment, it seems like (according to Wired) additional cubes can be purchased in the realm of $45 a piece.

To play games with the Sifteo cubes, syncing up becomes an absolute necessity. And that’s where Siftrunner comes in. Siftrunner is an application hosted on the Sifteo site – and it basically allows the cubes to connect with nearby computing platforms to download new puzzles.

Some of the cooler sounding games are Shaper,Gopher Run and Cube Math, but we’re sure that there are probably more to come.

That’s the beauty of this whole design; a user purchases the cubes, uploads the games, and goes.

Here’s hoping that we can do the same thing, one day, with our larger and more impressive LCD rentals.
