Laptop Rental News: Acer Expects Ultrabook Prices to Fall Next Year

Asus Ultrabook

The fourth largest PC manufacturer in the world, Acer, predicts that Ultrabook prices will decline next year.

If this becomes a reality, then Acer Utrabooks – provided with Intel processors – will dominate the PC industry, according to Acer chairman, T.J. Wang.

Wang also indicated that the key PC platforms are going to be Wintel (Windows/Intel), Google and Apple in future, predicting the popularity of Apple will fade in the next few years and Wintel will dominate the market. This will happen primarily due to the increasing popularity ultrabooks and notebooks provided with superior quality features, he said, highlighting that notebooks come with an extended battery life, instant-on and always connected facilities. In addition, the devices are reasonably lightweight and thin.

The first few companies to adopt Intel’s Ultrabook concept were Asus, Acer, Toshiba and Lenovo. These manufactures released their Ultrabook series earlier this year, powered by Intel’sCore Sandy Bridge chips.

Intel is all set to release Ivy Bridge Chips of 22-nanometer next year. These will offer high performance and will be very energy-efficient. Intel’s new 3D Tri-Gate transistor will also feature in the Core Sandy Bridge Chips. The feature will reduce power consumption of devices.

Intel mentioned quite a few specifications which Ultrabooks should ideally have. Manufacturers will determine how far the specifications will be implemented. The thickness of the devices should ideally be 0.8 inches. Ultrabooks process should not exceed $1,000, and Intel has made efforts to help manufacturers reduce the prices of their Ultrabooks. Architectural designs have been offered by Intel and a $300 million dollar fund has been created for developing Ultrabooks technologies.
