Good news for iPad Rentals: DRM-Removal Allows Users to Streamline Multimedia Usage

Our Apple iPad rental options are very popular these days, along with all other Apple products. Part of the appeal comes from their ability to cater strongly to multiple multimedia features such as audio and video playback, simultaneous music and movie transitions, and other abilities that are required by today’s mobile generation.

But as one company has pointed out, there are several drawbacks to Apple’s iDevices. Many audio and video formats are not supported, there are no optimization options geared at media file size and quality, and multimedia usage seems to be a killer drain on the battery. Additionally, within the popular iTunes app, syncing is slow and files can become crippled from DRM.

DRM (digital rights management) has historically been a problem because it is a way for company’s to control the capabilities of a computer. This means that branded software can be limited, among other things. Apple’s always come under fire for this, and the company’s come under fire via several platforms.

One website, called www.defectivebydesign.com, challenges Apple’s choice of utilizing DRM head on. Their main complaint? “DRM will give Apple and their corporate partners the power to disable features, block competing products (especially free software) censor news, and even delete books, videos, or news stories from users' computers without notice-- using the device's "always on" network connection.”

Those parties agreeing with the above statement can visit the website and sign a petition. Or, they can download a new software designed to crack past Apple’s restriction. DRM-Removal is supposedly compatible with all Apple mobile devices. Plus, it supposedly makes DRM protected files work with an Apple media device.

While we don’t necessarily recommend this work around, at least it’s there.
