An explosion has killed two factory workers and injured another 16 in Chengdu, China. Foxconn, a high-tech plant in southwestern China, is known for manufacturing Apple’s iPad, which we rent to companies looking for tablet rentals.

Foxconn is the trade name of Taiwan-headquartered Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., the world’s largest contract manufacturer of electronics, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Here is first hand footage from Chinese website v.youku.com:

Foxconn spokesman, Qian Ding issued a statement saying the fire had been brought under control, telling the BBC that the "reason for the explosion, as well as the financial cost and the number of injured, were still being investigated."

The plant ran into some negative press recently when more than 13 of its factory workers committed suicide. Those putting pressure on the company say the employees work long hours for low pay under hard working conditions.

Foxconn employs more than 400,000 workers producing technological products for big names like Apple, Dell and H.P.
