Enjoy a Luxurious LCD Table With Breakfast
LCD screens are showing up everywhere – on television sets, the backs of vehicle headrests, refrigerator doors and gas station pumps. So it seemed only a matter of time before LCDs debuted on… furniture. Ideum is shaking up the industry with its new, appropriately-priced MT55 "multi-touch" table. We can’t say we haven’t seen this technology before – Microsoft Surface looks a whole lot like the MT55 – and it’s been around for a little while longer. Surface also has the added bonus of having apps and software already built for it, which can be used in both educational and enterprise settings. However, the MT55 keeps things competitive. Its LCD screen functions as the table’s surface, allowing users to interact fully while enjoying their breakfast or filling out bills. The $18,000 LCD display will also perform exceptionally outside of the dining room as its eye-catching innovation is practically guaranteed to draw a crowd. The MT55 is built solidly, using a 55 inch, optical LCD display that is considered one of the thinnest in the industry (it also allows up to 32 touch points). According to Ideum, it’s the screen that makes the display successful. One company official said, "The interactive surface of the MT55 Platform is protected by a sheet of crystal clear, 5mm tempered glass. We’re also introducing a new surface option for all of our multitouch tables: Sevasa HapticGlas, produced exclusively for Ideum. Micro-etched HapticGlas provides tactile feedback, reduces fingerprints, increases scratch resistance, and directs user focus." Sounds good. And best of all, it sounds like it won’t break when I drop something heavy on it. With the added bonus of SSD, Wireless-N and Bluetooth access, the MT55 earns its grits as a solid offering. For those frightened away by the MT55’s $18,000 price-tag, consider stapling a regular old LCD to a few pieces of plywood. We can’t guarantee its safety, but it will be a whole lot cheaper than purchasing an MT55 flat out. Alternatively, take advantage of the LCD rental options that Vernon Computer Source offers. It’s staple-free… and less costly than the alternative. |
