Dating Service on your Computer Rental Invaded by ‘Ugly’ Virus

A website titled "The Beautiful People" was just hit recently by a virus that applied thousands of sub-standard looking people. The site prides itself in being the most exclusively beautiful community in the Internet world, and may have just got invaded by an ugly virus. Careful who you talk to on your computer rental, next time you join a dating site.

The "Shrek" Virus, as they call it, invaded with 30,000 applicants that were sub-standard to join the Internet dating party. Is this just a cruel prank, or is there something to be said with the site’s Internet security or how exclusive they are?

The website explains how it was mainly like an evil Easter egg, a glitch in the matrix if you will, like one that an old employee had planted much earlier. A security firm Sophos actually explained to the public that it could’ve been a publicity stunt by the company.

As funny as this is, I can only imagine how sad it must have been for the people who were looking for another "beautiful person" on the Internet only to be stunted by an ugly virus.

They got suspicious finally when 30,000 applicants that were sub-par to the dating site’s standards started filtering into the site. The website has been recently criticized for its skin-deep and shallow application process of only allowing in beautiful people. So this virus definitely made the system creators feel bad, after they were forced to rethink denying 30,000 people their chance to date on thebeautifulpeople.com.

Speaking to the Guardian the site's MD, Greg Hodge commented: "We got suspicious when tens of thousands of new members were accepted over a six-week period, many of whom were no oil painting."

Hodge went on to defend the sites skin-deep recruitment process saying: "We have to stick to our founding principles of only accepting beautiful people – that's what our members have paid for. We can't just sweep 30,000 ugly people under the carpet."

Oh hackers and virus makers, how you have a way with humor. If there is any virus that could criticize a shallow dating site, it would be an ugly or Shrek virus. It’s a tough world for the lonely with a computer rental, especially when a virus is acting like an ugly hopeless romantic.
