Consider Renting a Samsung Series 9 Instead of a MacBook Air – And Here’s Why
The MacBook Air sets a pretty picture for Apple – it’s lightweight, powerful and cool (which is an arena that Apple has great strength in). But Microsoft isn’t one to take a challenge laying down. The Samsung Series 9, an incredibly lightweight laptop that runs Windows 7, is being released on the market as of tomorrow. The Series 9 weighs in at 2.86 lbs pounds and includes both a subwoofer and stereo speakers. The weightlessness of the Series 9 is made up for in the heftiness of its price tag – the 13” model costs a whopping $1,649.00. In comparison, the new Apple MacBook and MacBook Air line-up seems to consist of friendlier priced models. For 13”, your MacBook Air will cost you $1,299 or $1,599, depending on how many GBs of storage space you require. So that price difference might scare you away from the Series 9. And let’s not forget that Apple’s got its killer marketing team on its side. If you’ve passed any Apple Store front windows, you might’ve noticed the eye-popping display – Apple’s showing off its MacBook Air’s lightness by suspending them from mock balloons. The manufacturer isn’t shy about boasting about its laptops capabilities. On Apple’s website, it states, “Underneath all that thinness is a full-size, fully capable Mac that can do practically everything its larger siblings can do. Minus a pound or two.” Sounds reassuring, except for one fact: it runs on an Apple OS. And no matter how wonderful the MacBook Air might be… this is still a deal-killer for some business users. An initial review over at CNET, by Scott Stein, showed that the Samsung Series 9 may be a fierce contender indeed. Stein said, “After playing a bit with the 9 Series hands-on at CES 2011, we found that it proved to be every bit the thin stylish showpiece we expected. The interior of the laptop has a plastic feel (duralumin, to be precise), encased in a thin sheath of metal on the outside. Two side panels flip down for port access. For the non-Apple crowd, this is as close to a MacBook Air as you're likely to get.” Looking for an alternative to the Macbook Air? This is it. And whether you prefer MacBook Airs, regular old MacBooks or laptops, or the newest Samsung Series 9, we tend to stock a great deal of different models in our $40 million rental inventory.
