While upgrades to the entire MacBook Air and Pro lineups were highlighted at yesterday’s WWDC keynote, Apple revealed a new MacBook Pro with a retina display, combining all of the best features of Apple technology.
While the popular laptop has held the same design with an aluminum unibody since 2008, the next generation of MacBook Pro is said to encompass all of the best features of the MacBook Air and Pro, as well as the latest, third generation iPad. Not only can you expect a quad-core processor and super high-resolution display in an ultra-thin, “UltraBook” style body, you’ll also find the addition of HDMI.
The new MacBook pro will feature Ivy Bridge – Intel’s third generation Core i-series processors – as well as Intel HD 4000 integrated graphics. The retina display is an impressive 2,880 x 1,800 pixels, using the same technology as the latest iPad. For some comparison, the highest resolution of a Windows laptop display is 1,920 x 1,080 pixels (like an HDTV).
Reviewers have noted, however, that while the new MacBook Pro feels as thin as an UltraBook, it still weighs more – so as not to replace the MacBook Air as a mobile option for travelling professionals.
