LG, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of LCD displays, is all set to revolutionize home cinema and business displays with its new OLED display, named as ‘The Ultimate Display.’ The company, which introduced OLED (organic LED) in a 15-inch display in 2009, has taken a step further by introducing this 55-inch behemoth. LG representatives claim that this display device features some groundbreaking technology, a product of years of development and research from the company.
The Ultimate Display features the WRGB technology, which is touted as one of the best display technologies ever developed. The ‘4 Color Pixel’ technology is also used in this OLED display to achieve the perfect output color that researchers were trying to achieve ever since the first CRT was developed. To make the image more natural, vibrant and comfortable to the human eyes, a Color Refiner is used to enhance the image.
LG claims that this display offers the best viewing experience with no contrast loss, distortion or image degradation. The image quality is also not dependent on the viewing angles. This is because of the OLED technology. OLEDs, like plasma TVs, have self illuminating pixels that eliminate the need for backlighting. This gives the OLEDs capability to convey true blacks, which are most essential for achieving high contrast ratio and perfect picture clarity.
Coming to the design aspect of ‘The Ultimate Display’, it just measures 4 mm. The demo footage which was displayed to the patrons during release was vibrant, colorful and filled with detail. The true question is that if this display can perform the same way with normal TV transmission.
