Apple released its 15-inch MacBook Pro this summer, impressing industry reviewers but not making a huge splash among buyers. Well, according to recent reports, we can expect to see 13-inch MacBook Pros with a Retina display hitting the market this fall. In fact, it seems as if the product is already in production.
NPD DisplaySearch’s Rich Shim told CNET the smaller Retina MacBook Pros will feature a 2,560 x 1,600 pixel display in a lighter, cheaper package than its predecessor. In addition, the number of units to be available at the launch of the new product is reportedly going to be considerably higher in quantity than the 15-inch launch. While there were hundreds of thousands of 15-inch models available at the launch, there are expected to be somewhere around 1 and 2 million 13-inch units available at the new product’s release.
The first Retina display was debuted on the iPhone 4, later appearing on the 4S and then on the new iPad before being applied to the MacBook line.
