Asus and Dell are Committed to Tablet Business Despite Dull Market

Asus has announced in an official statement that it is committed to its tablet business -- no matter what you've heard. The company refuted a report which said that it is planning to retreat from the tablet market as the business had a rocky start.

Gary Kay, the spokesperson of Asus, has said that the reports and rumors about the company's decision to quit are false. A spokesperson from Dell too has said the company has not considered quitting the tablet business, despite murmurs from the rumor mill.

Both Asus and Dell, along with other tablet makers, are struggling to gain market shares. The tablet market is largely dominated by iPad from Apple. Only the recently arrived Kindle Fire from Amazon has been successful in garnering some attention from consumers. Devices like Iconia Tab from Acer, Streak from Dell, Xoom from Motorola, and Playbook from RIM could not attract customers despite being accompanied by promotions and there being a substantial price difference from iPad.

Kindle Fire and Nook tablet from Barnes & Noble too are offering stiff competition to other tablet manufacturers like Asus and Dell though these tablets lack a few significant features like webcam. Both devices are sold at a really low price when compared to the tablets of other manufacturers.

Tablet manufactures hope that the soon to arrive Android Ice Cream Sandwich OS may boost the tablet business. But it is difficult to predict which company would benefit most from this OS and make a mark in the tablet business.
